Route overview
An indicative Andaman passage
This is the more demanding five-day option. The direct waypoint plan is approximately 159 nautical miles and the expected sailed range is around 160–180 nautical miles. It links Yacht Haven with Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Koh Rok and Racha without the unrealistic Koh Muk and Koh Ha detours inherited from the former charter itinerary. Days 4 and 5 are substantial passages, so early starts, disciplined watches and flexible activity time are essential. It suits active sailors seeking more helm time; it is not designed as a leisurely island-hopping holiday.

Indicative passage plan
Each day is a planning framework, not a promise of a particular anchorage or activity. At five knots, a 50-mile leg requires roughly ten hours underway before pilotage and manoeuvring.
Approx. 37 nmStart with a full coastal passage
- Complete the yacht, safety and route briefing at Phuket Yacht Haven
- Establish watches and rotating onboard responsibilities
- Sail south toward Phi Phi while practising helming, sail trim and navigation logging
- Prepare and execute the arrival pilotage into a suitable bay or mooring
At five knots, the direct leg is more than seven hours underway. Any swim or shore visit depends on the departure time and progress made.
Approx. 23 nmConsolidate navigation and passage routines
- Deliver a crew-led weather and route briefing
- Rotate helm, lookout and navigation roles on the southbound leg
- Practise progress checks and estimated-time-of-arrival updates
- Select a Koh Lanta anchorage that offers shelter for the forecast
When timing allows, Koh Lanta offers beach restaurants and a chance to experience its local fishing-island community.
Approx. 17 nmReach the remote marine-park islands
- Plan the open-water route from southern Koh Lanta to Koh Rok
- Practise sail selection, course keeping and safe watch handovers
- Approach the islands using the current park and mooring information
- Prepare the yacht and crew for the following long passage
Snorkelling or a beach visit is possible only when park access, sea state and available time permit. Meals should be planned aboard because dependable shore dining is not available.
Approx. 48 nmComplete the principal offshore leg
- Depart early for approximately nine to ten hours underway at five knots
- Maintain a disciplined watch, position log and weather review
- Rotate helming, navigation, lookout and domestic responsibilities
- Complete arrival pilotage at the Racha Islands before the final return day
This leg is the heart of the Mile Builder. The instructor may select an alternative anchorage or adjust the earlier programme if the forecast does not support it.
Approx. 34 nmReturn to the home port
- Make an early start and review the final passage plan
- Apply collision regulations and maintain awareness around Phuket traffic
- Plan the approach into Yacht Haven and allocate final crew roles
- Secure the yacht, debrief and record the mileage actually sailed
There is no guaranteed final-day activity stop. A safe and reliable return to Yacht Haven takes priority.
