Course Overview
The RYA Yachtmaster Fast Track is an individually planned pathway for committed beginners and developing sailors working towards the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore examination. A typical zero-experience plan takes around 15 weeks, but its exact sequence depends on your starting level, documentary evidence, weather and training availability.
Students normally complete RYA Day Skipper Theory before arriving, then progress through Competent Crew, Day Skipper Practical, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory, advanced practical development and sustained passage experience. Skippers Online and Ardent Training are independent online-theory providers; their fees and learner support remain separate from Phuket Sea School.
Training from Phuket Yacht Haven Marina develops pilotage, tidal planning, day and night watchkeeping, yacht handling and command decisions across adaptable Andaman Sea passages. Routes are selected for safe, useful training and cannot be promised in advance.
The final stage normally combines five days of tailored preparation with an examination conducted by an independent RYA examiner. Mileage, qualifying passages, examination readiness and certification cannot be guaranteed: they depend on the weather, the responsibilities you perform, documented evidence and the independent assessment.
Yachtmaster Offshore is the principal pathway. A Yachtmaster Coastal alternative can be planned after the school checks your certificates and sea-time evidence against the current RYA requirements; no fixed shortcut or standard duration is assumed.

Training in Phuket and the Andaman Sea
Phuket provides a practical base for varied training, while every passage remains weather-led. The programme uses the area to develop judgement—not to promise a particular route or mileage total.

Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore?
These are the RYA's published examination prerequisites, not guaranteed outcomes of a fixed-duration course. Requirements and reductions must be checked against the current RYA guidance before an exam is arranged.

Certification and professional use are separate steps
A Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence does not by itself complete every requirement for commercial work. Medical, PPR, sea-survival or STCW evidence and a separate RYA application may apply. Check the current RYA Commercial Endorsement guidance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book the Yachtmaster Fast Track immediately online?
No. This is an individually planned 15-week pathway. The school first reviews your existing certificates, logged experience, theory progress, preferred dates and professional objectives, then sends a proposed schedule and written quotation before requesting payment.
Do I need previous sailing experience?
No previous experience is required for the complete pathway. It is intensive, however, and requires consistent study, active participation and a serious commitment to sustained development over repeated liveaboard sailing weeks.
Must I complete theory before arriving in Phuket?
Day Skipper Theory should be completed before the practical phase begins. Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Theory is also required during the pathway. Skippers Online and Ardent Training both offer combined online theory routes that are normally better value than purchasing the two theory courses separately.
Do all 15 weeks have to be consecutive?
Not necessarily. A continuous programme depends on yacht, instructor, theory, Mile Builder and examination availability. The school may divide the pathway into suitable blocks while preserving the correct progression and allowing adequate time to consolidate experience.
Can I follow a shorter Yachtmaster Coastal pathway?
Yes. We can plan a Yachtmaster Coastal-focused pathway after reviewing your existing certificates, documented sea time and current RYA eligibility requirements. It has no fixed shortcut or standard duration. The minimum exam age is 17, and the final plan is confirmed before training or examination is arranged.
Does the programme guarantee 2,500 qualifying miles?
The pathway is designed to develop experience towards the Yachtmaster Offshore mileage requirement, but exact mileage and qualifying passages depend on weather, routing, operational conditions and the responsibilities you perform aboard. Your logbook is reviewed throughout, and the plan may be adjusted if a shortfall remains.
Is the Yachtmaster certificate guaranteed?
No. The final examination is conducted independently, and presentation for examination depends on meeting the current eligibility requirements and reaching the required practical standard. The instructor will give honest readiness feedback and may recommend further development before an examination is arranged.
Where do I stay during the programme?
Onboard accommodation is included during practical sailing weeks. Shared cabins or berths are the standard arrangement. A private cabin must be reserved using the applicable private-cabin tariff. Couples or friends may ask to be allocated together, subject to the assigned yacht and existing reservations. Students arrange accommodation ashore during theory study, applicable weekends and any breaks between course blocks. We can recommend suitable options near Yacht Haven Marina and elsewhere in Phuket.
How are meals and provisions arranged?
During a standard five-day practical week, A simple breakfast and lunch are provided onboard each sailing day, together with drinking water, tea and coffee. Dinner is normally enjoyed ashore at the student's own cost. If the itinerary requires an evening at anchor, provisions for one simple onboard dinner are included. Soft drinks, alcohol, snacks and additional personal provisions are not included. Students share simple meal preparation, washing-up and normal yacht housekeeping as part of cruising-yacht life. During a longer mileage passage, A simple breakfast and lunch are provided onboard each sailing day, together with drinking water, tea and coffee. When a longer passage or anchorage makes dining ashore impractical, provisions for a simple dinner onboard are included. Other dinners ashore, soft drinks, alcohol, snacks and additional personal provisions are not included. Students share simple meal preparation, washing-up and normal yacht housekeeping as part of cruising-yacht life. Meals during theory study, weekends and other breaks are not included.
Does Yachtmaster automatically allow me to work commercially?
No. After gaining the appropriate Yachtmaster certificate, a commercial endorsement normally also requires PPR, an accepted medical certificate, the relevant sea survival or STCW evidence and a separate application to the RYA. We can help you understand the pathway, but final approval rests with the RYA.
Are examination and professional endorsement fees included?
Not by default. The RYA First Aid course is included, but Yachtmaster examination fees, examiner logistics, medical certification, PPR, STCW and commercial endorsement costs remain separate unless your written pathway quotation expressly includes them.
