Programme Overview
Flotilla sailing combines the independence of skippering your own yacht with the reassurance of travelling alongside a lead boat and other crews on an agreed route.
The group plans each day’s passage and destination before departure. Participating skippers retain responsibility for their yacht while the lead team coordinates briefings, route considerations and VHF support within the agreed operating plan.
Phuket programmes are customised around yacht availability, skipper experience, group size, weather and suitable Andaman routes. They may use privately owned or separately chartered yachts.
Who Is This Programme For?
Day Skippers, families and groups who want supported first-time charter leadership, social cruising and confidence-building across several yachts.
Prerequisites
- Participating skippers should normally hold RYA Day Skipper or demonstrate equivalent experience
- At least one competent skipper and suitable crew on each yacht
- RYA Marine Radio VHF/SRC or equivalent radio competence recommended
- Minimum skipper age 16, subject to charter and insurance requirements
How a Flotilla Day Works
The final route is selected for the group, yachts, season and weather rather than fixed in advance.

Yacht Haven Marina is approximately 20–30 minutes by road from Phuket International Airport in normal traffic. Exact boarding, checkout and examination arrangements are confirmed in the written joining instructions.

Phuket is warm throughout the year, but the monsoon seasons influence wind, rainfall and route planning. These are typical patterns rather than a forecast.

Is the yacht charter included?
Not by default. The written proposal will state whether yachts are supplied, separately chartered or owner-provided, together with all known operating costs.
Does the lead boat take command of my yacht?
No. Each participating skipper remains responsible for their own yacht and crew. The lead team provides the agreed briefings, coordination and support rather than replacing the skipper.
