Tuition Overview
Own Boat Tuition lets you learn aboard the boat you actually use, with the people you normally sail or cruise with. The instructor can focus on the handling characteristics, systems and routines that matter to you instead of following a generic programme.
Tuition can start from one day and may cover familiarisation, close-quarters manoeuvring, sail handling, berthing, anchoring, pilotage, passage planning, crew communication, safety drills or preparation for a longer trip. Sail and motor enquiries are both welcome.
Send us your boat type, location, preferred dates, number of participants and training goals. We will review whether the vessel and proposed operating area are suitable, then provide a written plan and quotation before any payment is requested.

New owners, families and regular crews who want private coaching on their own sailboat or motorboat, including focused familiarisation after purchasing or changing vessels.
Prerequisites
- Access to the nominated vessel with the owner’s permission
- A seaworthy and appropriately insured boat with current documents
- Suitable safety, navigation and operating equipment for the planned tuition
- The owner must disclose known defects or operating limitations before training

Delivery dates and final inclusions are confirmed before payment. External examination or certification fees remain separate unless your written quote explicitly includes them.

Arrange your tuition
Own Boat Tuition is arranged by enquiry because the instructor must understand the vessel, location and training objective before confirming delivery.
- Minimum booking is normally one instructor day
- The indicative tuition fee starts from €400 per instructor day
- Travel, meals, accommodation and unusual logistics are quoted separately where applicable
- The owner remains responsible for the vessel’s seaworthiness, documentation, insurance and normal operating costs
The written proposal will identify the agreed scope, location, instructor, costs and whether any recognised course or certificate can form part of the tuition.
Suggested vessel checklist
The exact requirements depend on the boat and operating area. We will confirm the relevant checklist before the training day.

Yacht Haven Marina is approximately 20–30 minutes by road from Phuket International Airport in normal traffic. Exact boarding, checkout and examination arrangements are confirmed in the written joining instructions.
